In a study involving low-income pregnant women, it was reported that the likelihood of bacterial vaginosis decreased as vitamin D status improved to sufficient vitamin D level. It is believed that vitamin D influences the immune system to respond to prevent and control bacterial invasion. By reducing the chances of bacterial vaginosis, the risk of preterm birth is also likely to be reduced.
